Farmhouse Linen Cabinet

We finally replaced our modern IKEA storage unit with something with a bit more farmhouse style! The IKEA bookcase got a new home in our little office/dressing room, and I found this beautiful old piece to use as a farmhouse linen cabinet in the guest bedroom.

I found this piece last year when furniture with old wavy glass was high on my wish list. I found several pieces in the $800-$1,000 range, but let’s be honest here, that was not going to happen. On a whim one day, I stopped in a tiny antique store with my grandmother and found this beauty with its beautiful original paint and priced below $200. Oh, and do you see a bit of wavy on that glass? It’s hard to photograph, but it’s there and it makes me smile each time I see it :)

There is something so dreamy about old glass. I really wish our home had all its original windows, but sadly those were removed decades ago (which is pretty dang obvious from the windows in this room).

Since I’m not a complete linen addict (yet) and because our bulkier quilts and blankets have to be stored in the bottom section of this cabinet, I filled in the spaces with some of my favorite books. Our dining room library wall is taking forever to complete, so we have books stacked everywhere in the meantime. It was nice to be able to organize and put some of them away!

Books, pillowcases, and blankets with pretty patterns. They’re all really just lovely little collections, aren’t they?

I’ll show more of this room later, but I will say that bringing in this warm cream farmhouse linen cabinet has me second guessing our pale blue-grey wall color. Perhaps I should warm it up a bit. What do you think?

  6. Last idea ever expected to be so popular is “farmhouse” Used to be loving country items was only for die-hard country fans now so many love country for chippy paint, old, whatever else so many think makes something “country”. And if it’s country doesn’t that mean it’s farmhouse?
Have to admit am bit confused as to which is which. Whichever, I love the simplicity, easy going look of farmhouse/country.
Have to admit think am a laid back cottage fan or is that farmhouse? What a quandary.

  7. My first visit today…. So glad!!! Trying to redo my guest room and this piece is soooo “Inspirational” !! Perfect!!! I have subscribed… and excited to follow along!!!

  8. Wavy glass is the best! Yes, I would intensify the wall color somehow – would create more contrast with the lovely white cabinet and bedspread. My husband and I are working on an old farmhouse too- built in 1911. Right now all the walls are white because we just wanted to get them painted, but I’m dreaming of color . . . I think it’s important to live in the space and feel what the color should be.

  10. Farmhouse linen cabinets offer many benefits for homeowners. They are typically low maintenance, and they can be used to organize and store a variety of items. They are also attractive, and they can add character to a room.
